"Negative Spaces" Clay, 2007.

This piece was created as a study of the body's negative spaces.  Often overlooked when creating figurative sculpture is the negative space in between the flesh and bones.  I sought to draw full attention to these spaces by demonstrating the complexity of their textures and proving to the viewer the level of unfamiliarity we feel towards their alien forms.  We are not used to seeing these fluid spaces as physical and unchanging objects.  The pieces below mostly explore the spaces of the limbs and digits.
